Best Garden Competition 2023

Can you feel that? It’s the sun! We finally found it, after all this time! It’s blooming hot.

And you know what that terrible horticultural pun means – it’s time for Lawley and Overdale Parish Council’s Best Garden Competition 2023! We’ve decided to bring it forward a bit this year, so that flowers have a chance to appear in your photos this thyme.

Gardening Competition, July 2023

What is it?

It’s a competition! About gardens! Your gardens, to be precise.

Whether you have a large lawn or a bitsy balcony, you can enter one of three categories and impress our judges with your botanical brilliance. As with last year, the categories are:

  • Best garden: Put your petal to the metal, as the competition for this category is always fierce! This is for those who have a well-maintained and beautiful garden that showcases a variety of plants, flowers and features. You can enter any type of garden, from formal to wild, front to back, as long as it leaves us head clover heels.
  • Most creative use of space: This is for those who have a small or unusual space that they have transformed into a veritable oasis. Containers, vertical gardening, hanging baskets, or any other clever ideas, we’re keen to see the efforts of anybody who rose above the trivial limitations of time and space.
  • Best young gardener: Last bud not least, this is for our smaller, younger gardeners under the age of 18. You can enter any type of garden or project that you have done by yourself or with some help from an adult. You can grow flowers, vegetables, herbs, or anything else that shows your love for nature. You don’t have to be covered in mud to enter, but we will find it funny if you are.

The top of the crop of each category will receive a £50 gift card from a local garden centre that they can spend on more plants, gnomes, tools, gnomes, accessories, or gnomes for their victorious gardens.

Runners up will receive a £25 gift card.

You’ll also gain that seed of knowledge that you have one of the most glorious gardens in the whole parish. Which is nice.

How to enter

The competition is open to all residents of Lawley and Overdale parish, and the deadline for entries is 31 July 2023.

To enter, please send up to three photographs of your garden, indicate which category you are entering, and tell us your address. Send all this information to us by email at events@lawleyoverdale.org.uk.

We will not release any of your information, it’s just to verify that you’re a resident of the parish. See our privacy policy for how we store and use information. By entering, you agree that we will be able to use your photographs on our website, social media, and in our newsletter when announcing the winners.

After judgement by our panel of judges, the winners will be announced in August!

So what are you waiting for? Get your trowels out and dig in to this exciting opportunity. You might just be the next… alright, we’ve run out of gardening puns.
