Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II

On Thursday 8 September 2022, Buckingham Palace delivered the sad news that HM Queen Elizabeth II had passed away peacefully at Balmoral Castle.

Everybody here at Lawley and Overdale Parish Council would like to express their deepest sympathies to Her Majesty’s family, and we join the nation in mourning her passing.

Statement from the Chair of Lawley and Overdale Parish Council

On behalf of the councillors and staff at Lawley and Overdale Parish Council and the residents of our parish, I would like to express the great sadness felt here at the news of the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with the Royal Family at this time.

Condolence books

Residents wishing to send messages of condolences may do so using the national online condolence book. A selection of these may be delivered to HM The Queen’s family, and may be stored in the Royal Archives for future generations.

Local condolence books are now open from 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday, at the following libraries around the borough:

  • Southwater
  • Wellington
  • Madeley
  • Newport
  • Oakengates

These libraries will also be open on Saturday 10 September 2022 and Sunday 11 September 2022 between 10am – 3pm, to allow residents to sign the condolence books.

Residents may also leave floral tributes at these locations.

Funeral

HM Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral will take place at London’s Westminster Abbey, at 11am on Monday 19 September. There will be a two-minute silence.

The day of the funeral has been declared a national Bank Holiday.
