Christmas in the parish

It’s Christmas time, parish events and rhyme…

The season of merriment, mirth, and being continually disappointed that it hasn’t snowed yet is fast approaching us, and this year we’re planning to celebrate in style. We’re pulling out all the crackers and have planned three jolly events around the parish for you this year!

Come and join us! We may even have a magical guest star…

You’ve got three events, in three different locations, on three different dates to choose from this Christmas – you could even come to all three, if you wanted! So we hope you’ll be available for at least one of them!

Dawley Bank – 3 December

In partnership with Great Dawley Town Council, we’ve provided funding to this year’s Dawley Bank Festive Fun event. We’ll have a stall at the event too! Our thanks to Great Dawley Town Council for arranging the event and inviting our parish to take part!

Kicking off at 5pm on Friday 3 December 2021, the event will take place at both Dawley Baptist Church and the Jubilee Woods right up until 7pm.

What can you expect to find there?

At Dawley Bank Baptist Church, you’ll find live music, an assortment of community and craft stalls, face painters, and more!

Meanwhile, in the Jubilee Woods, there will be trails to follow and certain red-suited jolly man to find!

Both entry and all of the activities will be free, so you’ve really got no reason not to ho-ho-hurry on down!

Overdale – 11 December

T’was Saturday 11 December, when all through the Carpenter Centre, the stalls were all ready – even a face painter!

We promise there won’t be any more terrible poetry, but from 11am until 2pm at the Carpenter Centre, you’ll be able to come down and find an assortment of craft stalls and other fun activities to scratch your festive itch.

Will there be Christmassy crafts? Yep. Will there be coffee? Yes. Will there be face painters? Yes! Will there be fudge?! You bet!

Will the North Pole’s favourite delivery man be there?

We have it on good authority that Father Christmas himself will, indeed, be available to take your pre-orders. We hope you’ve been good this year. He knows, you know.

As with all these events, entry will be free for everybody, so we hope to see you all there!

Lawley – 18 December

Wrap up warm and grab some mulled wine, because we’re heading outdoors for this event!

On Saturday 18 December, from 2pm until 5pm, the Parish Council team will once again be joined by Santa himself, this time around the Lawley War Memorial.

There’ll be stalls a-plenty, the opportunity to get your face painted like a tiger, and refreshments and festive treats.

Given the proximity of the giant Christmas tree, we felt like it would be a good idea to have carollers under it, singing some carols.

Do you, or preferably some of your smaller loved ones, have any wishes you’d like to make of the most bearded Saint Nick from here to Lapland? We’ve got you covered – Santa’s roaming grotto will be open to the younger members of the public.

And don’t worry about it being outside – we’ve got shelter, lighting, coffee, and a ‘plan B’ should the weather decide to be particularly awful. Keep an ear out!

How to find the Lawley event

All three events will feature a classic Lawley and Overdale Parish Council tombola, so you’ll all have the chance to win some great prizes, too. All proceeds raised at the events will be donated to Telford MIND.

So here it is. Merry Christmas. We hope everybody’ll have some fun.

Look to the future now. Noddy didn’t account for three Christmas events across Lawley and Overdale parish, but we did, and we hope to see you there!

If you have any questions, please do contact us and we’ll try to answer them.

If you’re looking for extra events, we’re also building a list of Christmas services and events being held around the parish.
