What’s in a Name?

You may have seen another new building going up adjacent to Lawley Square. This is the new Marston’s public house. We believe that the pub is a good idea but have an  issue regarding its name – ‘The Grazing Cow’. We feel this is inappropriate and has no relevance to the area at all. Parish Council members were asked to forward more appropriate names with a link to the history of the area. A selection of which includes: The Foundry, The Birchfield Arms, The Station, The Foxholes, The Forge and The Pantulf Arms (Doomsday records as first Lord of Lawley Manor). The Clerk had contacted Marston’s but they responded that they do not consult on the naming of their new pubs and that the current theme they are using is animals hence the name. We have asked for support from LVDG and TWC regarding getting the name changed as both of these parties feel the name is not appropriate for the area.

We would like to hear what you think of the name – contact us with your thoughts as after all it may become your local!

We look forward to hearing from you!
