The Shropshire Prostate Cancer Support Group (SPCSG) is inviting men over 40 to a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing event this June, hosted at Lawley Community Centre. Lawley and Overdale Parish Council has offered its support for the event, giving £3,500 in funding towards its costs.
The SPCSG is a charity that offers non-medical support to men who are worried about prostate cancer, or who have the disease. They host regular PSA testing events around the county. The Parish Council also supported an event last year which was well-attended, screening around 700 men and helping to detect a number of possible early cases.
PSA tests are a blood test used to screen for indicators of prostate cancer. The results are quick, and they can help inform people if they need to seek medical help. Prostate cancer affects 45,000 men each year, and detecting it early can save lives.
The PSA testing event at Lawley Community Centre will take place on Monday 27 June 2022, from 6pm until 9pm.
Please note that this is not a drop-in event. Bookings are now closed, but keep an eye on the My PSA Tests website for future events.
