Lawley and Overdale Parish Council’s Chairman, Councillor Raj Mehta, is back to deliver a video update for October 2022.
Transcript
Hi, I’m Councillor Raj Mehta, Chair of Lawley & Overdale Parish Council, with my October update.
I hope all is well and everyone is safe and well in the community
Firstly, the Lawley 5K Fun Run in partnership with Lawley Running Club and BVT took place on Saturday 24 September and over 180 people took part this year.
This year’s support charity was Telford First Responders, who conduct life-saving work all across the Parish.
We would like to pass on our thanks to all the sponsors who kindly donated items to this year’s Fun Run. These include Foden Property, Lawley Pharmacy, Lawley & Overdale Parish Council, Bournville Village Trust, Henshall’s Insurance Brokers, Plush Hill Cycles, Persimmon Homes and Lawley Partnership Board.
We hope everyone that took part in the event enjoyed it and if you did not take part this year there’s always next year for you to come. Get your trainers on and start practising as the Lawley 5K Fun Run will return in 2023.
It was a long, bumpy road, but the Overdale Queen’s Platinum Jubilee party, originally scheduled to take place way back on Sunday 5 June – was finally held on Sunday 4 September.
We’d like to thank everyone who attended the event and we hope you had a fantastic time. Also, we’d like to thank the service providers and suppliers who helped us to deliver the event. While the platinum Jubilee is a once-in-a-generation event, one that has since taken on new meaning, we will be looking to hold a similar event in that spot at some point next year, so keep your eyes peeled for news on that.
Next, a big thank you to everyone who was able to attend the three Fun Science sessions held around the Parish during the summer holidays. We’d like to offer a particularly big thank you to Sue Hayward from Fun Science Shropshire, who delivered these sessions.
The theme this time was ‘disgusting digestion’ and it certainly provides the children with an interesting – and somewhat messy – way to learn about science.
Entries for the Best Garden Competition closed on 31 August. Thank you to everyone that sent through their entries for the different competition categories. The Vice Chairman, Cathy Salter and I have reviewed all of the fantastic entries and winners and runners up for each category will be revealed on the social media platform, so please keep your eyes open.
We announced last week the Celebrating Lawley multi-cultural community event taking place on Saturday 22 October at the Lawley Village Academy School between 1.30pm – 4.30pm and it has been organised by Lawley Partnership Board. Please look to attend this event and look to celebrate the diversity of the Community.
We have started to make plans for this year’s Christmas events across the Parish.
First up with the Overdale Christmas Fayre, hosted at the Carpenter Centre on Saturday 10th December, from 2.00pm to 5.00pm.
Next, will be the Lawley Christmas Fayre, which will be held near the Lawley War Memorial on Saturday 17th December, from 2.00pm to 5.00pm.
Finally, I would like to remind everyone that at our monthly Full Council meetings there is a public session where anyone is welcome to attend to discuss any matters with Councillors that have been elected to serve you in the Parish. Details of the meeting and times can be found on our website.
I hope that’s been enough information for you past and going forward into this month. Again, from me and my colleagues and Councillors at the Parish, we are here to serve you so if there is anything you need, please get in touch with our wonderful staff at the Parish. They are there to serve you and we are here to listen to you the community.
I look forward to bringing you new updates next month in November. Until then stay safe and enjoy yourselves at the community events that we will be bringing to your Parish.
