There is currently a street naming consultation being held for an area of Phase 11 in Lawley, and we are seeking your ideas for submission.
This is your chance to help name part of our parish!
Check the PDF file available to download below to see the area being covered. The area will include 587 new homes, which will need an estimated 20 new street names.
Due to the new Ward boundaries, this area will span two wards – Lawley Ward (559 dwellings) and the Malinslee & Dawley Bank Ward (28 dwellings).
We’re looking for ideas that are suitable for the area and its history. To be eligible for consideration, suggestions should:
- Commemorate local history, events or culture.
- Honour noteworthy persons associated with the local area or Telford & Wrekin as a whole (e.g. a fallen soldier, a former Councillor, a person who has made a contribution to the local community).
- Celebrate cultural diversity in Telford & Wrekin.
- Commemorate national and international noteworthy persons who relate to the borough.
- Commemorate national and international events.
- Strengthen neighbourhood identity.
- Recognise native wildlife, flora, fauna or natural features related to the site, community or Telford & Wrekin as a whole.
Some ideas we’ve come up with ourselves as examples, using our History Trail as inspiration, include:
- Betjemen Street/Way
- Cottage Lane
- Grocers Close
- Gerrard Drive/Way/Street
- Williams Way
- Owen Close
If you’ve got any ideas that you’d like to submit to the consultation, please email them to clerk@lawleyoverdale.org.uk for consideration. Please include supporting information to explain the suggestion.
Also note that Telford & Wrekin Council prefers to use unique street names whenever possible to avoid confusing postal workers!
We’ll forward all appropriate suggestions on to the consultation process.
