Happy Birthday to the NHS

The National Health Service will be 72 years old this weekend.

Established on 5th July 1948, it was the first time anywhere in the world that free healthcare was available to all, to not only treat illnesses but to also promote good well-being. Since then it has made considerable medical advances and improvements to public health, enabling people to live longer and healthier lives.

The NHS has faced many challenges over the years, most certainly this year, as all staff from across the health service have worked tirelessly to continue to deliver care and assistance to those who need it.

NHS England is asking everyone to raise their drink or cup of tea on Sunday 5th July at 5.00pm, and be part of the birthday celebrations.

Download and colour a birthday card to display in your window, and join the country to applaud those whose commitment, help and support has meant so much to so many.
