Lighting Up The Iron Bridge

As part of the Festival of Imagination the Iron Bridge, which holds a UNESCO World Heritage status, will be illuminated every Saturday and Sunday starting this weekend.

The new advanced and environmentally friendly floodlighting scheme, designed to compliment the historic structure, was part of a £3.6m conservation project, by English Heritage in 2018.

It is hoped that the new lights will showcase the structure of the bridge and also celebrate its great industrial heritage with a new furnace effect, evocative of the industrial past, as part of the Telford 50 legacy.

Other locations within the Gorge, including the Museum of the Gorge, the Coalbrookdale viaduct and The Barlett Memorial Fountain, will also be lit up this weekend until 10:00pm.

The Festival of Imagination is a celebration of the Ironbridge Gorge and runs until 27th September, with a whole host of activities both online and at socially distanced events within Ironbridge. From live cooking demo’s to poetry workshops and “walk the gorge trails”. It is guaranteed to be good fun for everyone!
