Transcript
Hi, my name’s Councillor Raj Mehta, Chair of Lawley & Overdale Parish Council. July’s update, I wanted to give you as promised last month.
Just a big thank you for all of you for attending Summer Fest. What a beautiful day was it, what kind of fun we all have. Thank you to all the stallholders and thank you to you, the public that came and enjoyed yourselves. I could see children and adults were all enjoying themselves coming together. We look forward to bringing more in the future events to you.
I just like to take the time to apologise for having to postpone the Queen’s Jubilee event. We wanted to make sure that everyone was safe, so we collectively we took the decision as a council. So again, my apologies for postponing the event and we look forward to rescheduling it very soon and make sure you are all there.
Fun Science sessions coming up. There’s three Fun Science sessions taking place during the month of August across the Parish for children between the age 5 – 11. On the 9th August we are at Lawley Community Centre, the 16th August we are at the Carpenter Centre, Overdale and on the 24th August, we are here at Dawley Baptist Church. There are limited spaces available, so quickly get booked in.
We are bringing women’s self defence sessions to the Parish. Following the free taster session at the Carpenter Centre run by the Modern CQC, there is an opportunity to attend a six week main course at the Carpenter Centre in Overdale starting at the end of October. Alternatively, there will be another six week course that comes to Lawley in January 2023. No experience is necessary, easy to learn and very effective. These sessions will help build your awareness and confidence.
We have launched a garden competition for the whole of August. We are running our garden competition again. The three categories are, the best garden, most creative use of space and young gardener. The winners will be announced in September, do join in.
The 5k Fun Run is back taking place on the 10th September. Please book your space while there are some still available.
Anti-Social Behaviour. We’ve noticed an increase of graffiti around the Parish and anti-social behaviour such as trollies being thrown into the Old Park pool. Please contact us to report or contact 101 if you have any evidence of any of this as we do not tolerate this in our Parish. We are a good Parish, we have a lot of positives happening. So, please work with us and the Police and let’s make sure we can stop this anti-social behaviour. Thank you.
On behalf of myself, the Chair of the Parish, and my colleague councillors and our staff. A big thank you to you for working with us and we look forward in the near future to serving you more and working with you. This is your Parish, once again get in touch with us any time we want to work with you and for you. I look forward to bringing you the video in August to you with more updates. Until then, stay safe and enjoy the weather.
