Life-saving defibrillators installed across the Parish

Lawley and Overdale Parish Council in partnership with the Wrekin Housing Group and Councillor Mark Boylan have paid for new life saving defibrillators within the local community, bringing the total new of units to four.

Three new units have been installed across Old Park, The Rock and Overdale and are fully accessible to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The defibrillators also have a nominated person to ensure they are maintained and fully functional.

All three defibrillators have been added to the National Defibrillator Network, known as The Circuit, which enables users to locate the nearest unit.

Using a defibrillator alongside Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) can significantly increase the chances of survival when there is a sudden cardiac arrest. If a defibrillator is used within the first minute, the survival rate can be as high as 90 percent.

The life-saving defibrillator purchased by the Wrekin Housing Group is located on the outside of Prestige Interior Projects on Park Lane.

David Wells, Executive Director for Operational Services at The Wrekin Housing Group said that the charity was “delighted to have supported the local community by donating the new defibrillator to Lawley and Overdale Parish Council”. He added that “in a medical emergency, time is absolutely of the essence and this vital piece of equipment will increase the chances of survival of anybody who suffers a sudden cardiac arrest”.

Councillor Pride Funding

Councillor Mark Boylan used some of his Telford & Wrekin Council Councillor Pride Funding to purchase two units for The Rock and Overdale, which was match funded by Lawley and Overdale Parish Council. Joint funding was also used to purchase bleed kits which have now been placed in all four defibrillator units within the Parish area.

Councillor Boylan was “pleased to have such life-saving equipment in key community locations” and said “the community can now respond promptly to cardiac emergencies”.

The defibrillator is located on the bus station along Bellpit Road, opposite Portobello Close.

The owner of the Premier Stores on Ercall View kindly agreed for the unit to be installed outside his shop.

The forth unit can be found outside the Parish Council office on West Centre Way, Lawley.

Resident training sessions

Lawley and Overdale Parish Council is currently arranging free training to those residents who would like to learn how to use the equipment.

Following the installation of the units, a local resident who works within the First Aid industry, contacted the Council to advise that he would be willing to deliver several sessions for free as a contribution to the community.

Further details will be announced in the New Year for those who wish to take part.
