Every year the Lawley Community Consortium, previously known as Lawley Partnership Board, which includes Lawley and Overdale Parish Council and BVT in Lawley Village, together with Lawley Running Club, choose a charity to support as part of their community events.
This year the partners will be supporting PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide in memory of Max Turton, a local resident who attended Lawley Primary School and played for Lawley Lightmoor Comets FC, who tragically died by suicide at 16 years of age.

Sadly, suicide is the biggest killer of young people in the UK, with over 1800 taking their own lives every year.
PAPYYRUS are dedicated to the prevention of suicide and the promotion of positive mental health and emotional wellbeing in young people. The charity works to remove the stigma surrounding suicide and help equip young people and their communities with the skills to recognise and respond to emotional distress.
The charity also provides confidential support and advice to young people struggling with thoughts of suicide by way of their helpline, HOPELINE247, a free and confidential service where individuals can openly talk about their thoughts and obtain resources such as coping and distraction techniques, to dealing with anxiety.
A JustGiving page has also been created to raise money for PAPYRUS in memory of Max, where residents can make a donation. For further details please visit Chris and Kate’s fundraiser for PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide.
