5K Fun Run proceeds donated to charities

Representatives from Lawley and Overdale Parish Council (LOPC), Lawley Running Club (LRC), and Bournville Village Trust (BVT) gathered at the Grazing Cow in Lawley yesterday evening (2 November) to present two charities with the money raised from the Lawley 5K Fun Run.

The Lawley 5K Fun Run, which was organised in partnership by LOPC, LRC and BVT, was the first ‘live’ event since 2019. COVID-19 restrictions caused 2020’s Fun Run to be cancelled, with an online version held instead. Considering the challenging circumstances, and the competition from many other running events taking place across the country at that time, we thought this year’s return to a live event went very well. More than 170 people signed up, and over 150 of you attended the event!

You can check out the photos and the videos from the 2021 5K Fun Run on its dedicated page.

In total, just over £920 was raised for charity – the Lawley Running Club kindly rounded-up that figure to a full £1,000. This was to be split equally between two worthy charities – West Mercia Search & Rescue, and Telford Mind, each of which does fantastic work that benefits residents of the parish and beyond. Check out their respective websites to learn more about the important work they do.

To enable the 5K Fun Run to better support two charities this year, Lawley and Overdale Parish Council pledged to match-fund the money was raised by the event. This brought the total up to £2,000, enabling each charity to receive a full £1,000 donation to support their work!

The cheques were presented to representatives of both charities yesterday at the Grazing Cow. We know they’ll put the money to great use.

We’d like to thank our partners at the LRC and BVT for their help with organising the event. We’d also like to thank the 5K Fun Run’s sponsors for this year:

The event’s sponsors donated money, equipment, and/or items to go into the goody bags, and without their support the event couldn’t have gone ahead as it did.

And last but certainly not least, we’d like to thank all of you who attended the event. We hope you had a fun time, and you should be proud that you’ve helped to raise so much money for two worthy causes.

We hope to see you next year!
